There are a range of options available to suit your child's educational needs from individual to group tuition for children aged 7-16 in Chelmsford or online. I try to make my sessions accessible for as many families as possible, self-guided courses are available, affordable online classes, small group face:face and online groups (with homework) and individual tuition so that you can select the level of tuition that is right for your child.

Why small group tutoring?

Children learn best when they are encouraged, supported and engaged in their learning. The benefits of group classes are that we can engage in fun, creative activities that enable students to reach their full potential. In a group members can learn together while building a network of like-minded peers to encourage and support their learning journeys.

There is a strong research evidence base that students make excellent progress and benefit from peer interaction in SMALL groups, groups are capped following EEF and NSPCC guidelines to ensure that they are safe, and all students get the support and teaching they need to thrive.

Primary Group Tuition

Small Group tuition is available for children in years 3-6 (7-11 years old) using a range of fun, creative activities. Children are grouped according to their ability levels after completing an assessment Parents can decide whether their children need to focus on just English, Maths or to have combined sessions.

As a qualified teacher and SENDCo I am highly skilled at building children's confidence and carfeully assessing gaps in learning to support students to make progress in a caring, supportive atmosphere.

11 plus Group Tuition Years 4 and 5

The 11+ exam requires children to be able to apply the full primary curriculum to questions at speed in a manner not taught in state schools. In group tuition and set homework, children have an opportunity to develop strong foundations in English, Maths and then learn to apply this to exam questions developing exam technique.

Weekly 11+ Groups are offered that not only prepare children for the 11+ exams but also enriches their overall educational experience.

Secondary English and Maths Tuition

I have succesfully taught English and Maths at secondary level and am skilled at supporting students, particularly reluctant learners to engage with their learning.

Group tuition is availabile for students in years 7 - 11 in English and Maths. At GCSE lessons are targeted to specific exam boards (AQA and Edexcel.) Students are grouped according to the planned paper of entry (foundation or higher)

Expert Guidance: As a qualified experienced teacher, with over 19 years of experience as both a teacher and Senior Leader in schools I have successfully supported children to pass 11+ exams in both Essex and London. Group 11+ tutoring is personalised to children’s individual needs whilst matched to the syllabus and target school (CSSE, FSCE, CEM or GL) in a small group setting whether this is in person or online.
Holistic Preparation: Beyond just exam techniques, all aspects of the 11+ exam, including English, Verbal Reasoning, Maths, and Non-Verbal Reasoning are covered. Emphasis is placed on the core skills including vocabulary development and accuracy in Maths and English, ensuring children gain a strong educational foundation that can then be applied to 11+ exam questions, depending on the schools being targeted.
Wellbeing Focussed: Whilst students will be encouraged to work hard and achieve their potential, children’s wellbeing is at the centre of the process. Exam technique will be practised to encourage children to develop confidence and foster their self-esteem so that they can be proud of their achievements no matter the final score on results day.
Quality Learning Materials: Unlike other courses that focus solely on tests, materials are selected to help children develop their skills and truly learn. Materials include timed papers, tests, interactive activities and games so that children are able to enjoy the new challenges presented to them and develop holistically.
Success-Oriented: Designed to improve pupils chances of gaining entry into all Essex Grammar Schools, whether they are targetting CSSE t or the FSCE 11+ assessessment, groups are tailored to ensure that students make accelerated progress. While entry at a grammar school can never be guaranteed with regular attendance, commitment and completion of homework children WILL make progress.

1:1 Tuition

Some children benefit from individual support. I am able to offer 1:1 sessions that are fully personalised to student's individual needs for years 1-11.

As a qualified SENDCo I am skilled at personalising learning for individual students. I have lots of experience teaching neurodiverse students and am skilled at engaging students who have found learning a challenge. As a coach I also specialise in encouraging children to focus on the 'why' of studying and supporting them to stay motivated and engaged. Having taught children from 5-16, and repeatedly having my teaching described as outstanding I am able to make lessons enjoyable and engaging so that all children I teach are able to make accelerated progress.

As someone who has achieved at the highest level educationally, having attended a grammar school, holding a first-class honours degree, a number of post-graduate diplomas and currently studying at the University of Oxford I also understand what is needed for academic excellence. 1:1 tuition can support the most able children to stretch and challenge themselves to achieve their full potential.
